Miley Goes X-Rated in New Vid !

It comes as no surprise any more to hear the words Miley Cyrus and scandalous in the same sentence, so watching her new video will bring no huge shocks. In fact, the provocative video seems a bit forced and the whole sexy new image is becoming tiresome now.
The song Adore You is actually a pleasant little ballad but it is turned into a cheap and tacky affair with this video which was Miley's opportunity to truly shock everyone with something demure and beautiful. Instead, she opted to roll around a bed in see-through underwear touching herself.
Disappointing to say the least.

More Exciting Beyonce News

In case you have been under a rock the past four days, Queen Bey dropped a massive surprise on the world on Friday the 13th with a brand new visual album that includes 14 new songs and 17 superb videos.
This album has already sold close to 1 million copies and that is with zero promotion, no lead single and the album is exclusive to iTunes so there is no telling how huge this album will be once it is available everywhere.

We still don't know much about the album, like how it was kept a secret for so long, why she chose to release it on Friday the 13th and what this means for how Beyonce release music in the future. But we do now know what two songs will be the first singles and I am glad to announce that she has chosen Drunk In Love feat. Jay-Z and XO.
The first offers us a sexy r'n'b jam for club nights and the latter a beautiful, uplifting ballad for a night in and a glass of wine but both are equally addictive and offer us some great music videos.
(Check out my Beyonce Album Review for more on these songs)

New Video : Eminem Faces His Monsters

Eminem's new single Monsters has already been a huge chart success both here in the UK and in America so it only feels right that the video has to be killer.
Rihanna plays Em's sexy therapist as he is faced with some former versions of himself over the years including Lose Yourself and The Way I Am. Not only is it nice to reminisce on some of Eminem's other great videos but it's also interesting to see how Eminem hasn't aged at all over the last ten years.

Beyonce Album Review

The best kept secret in 2013 goes to Beyonce and her team for managing to keep tight lipped about what would have been the most anticipated album of the year. Last week, Beyonce graced us with her self-titled fifth studio album after a two year wait since her last.
This album is the first of its kind being that every song has a video to accompany it, making it a 'visual album' - in Beyonce's words. It is also the sexiest and most experimental album that Beyonce has ever created and though it may not be 100% radio friendly, it is definitely deserving of a lot of success.

Pretty Hurts
A very powerful song. The clear message of the song is that trying to conform to societies standards of beauty is really difficult and a lot of pressure for women when it is really what's on the inside that counts. It is a message we have heard countless times before by many female artists but the delivery is so strong and fresh that it feels brand new.
The video is perfectly fitting, with Beyonce playing a beauty pageant contestant who undergoes plastic surgery, a strict exercise regime, pops diet pills and suffers from bulimia all in the hopes of winning the crown.

Haunted
Beyonce goes all experimental on this track with it living up to its title of being haunting. Some may say it seems to be a homage to Madonna and Justify My Love which becomes clearer once you watch the video.
Beyonce roams the corridor of a grand and spooky hotel (looking fierce in her suit) and peers into the other guests rooms where she finds a lot of strange scenes. Visually this was stunning to watch and really brings the song to life.

Drunk In Love feat Jay-Z
What is a Beyonce album without a little Jay-Z feature. Although this is not one of Jay-Z's best verses, it doesn't matter when the rest of the song is outstanding. In fact, this might just be my favourite track.
The bass and production is perfect for a club mix, the hook is hella catchy and this is the first taste of the sexy lyrics we can expect to hear throughout the album.
The video is brilliant also. Nothing too extraordinary, just the King and Queen of hip-hop dancing and embracing on a luxurious beach but coupled with the song it really is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Blow
Another favourite of mine - Beyonce goes all out naughty with lyrics like 'keep me humming, keep me moaning' in this 80's disco throwback track. It's obvious that Pharrell produced this track and when the beat drops just under 3 minutes and Bey asks you to 'turn that cherry out' the song moves to another level of fierceness.
The accompanying video is equally fun with Beyonce attending a roller disco with her sister and dancing around the rink in neon lights and skimpy hot pants.
If this wasn't so x-rated lyrically it would need to be a single.

No Angel
Beyonce sounds truly angelic - no pun intended - on this song in particular. It doesn't necessarily stand out within the album but the lyrics and repetition of 'you're no angel either' is really heartfelt and a softer moment in the epic Bey album.
The video is lovely too. Beyonce takes a moment to acknowledge her home city, Houston, with shots of cars, people and places in that area as well the Queen herself looking all types of fierce.

Partition

A Sasha-fierce moment if ever I heard one...although now she seems to have been renamed Yonce.
Bey goes above and beyond on this track when delivering the provocative message of, well, sex in the back of a limo. This sees a far more risque side of Beyonce being explored yet she manages to do what many female artists have failed this year and keep it classy !
The video features Jay as he watches his girl get down and dirty like only she can and we are not made about it.

Jealous
A more forgettable song amongst an album of outstanding gems but it is still an above average song and a well above average vocal.
The video may lack in a clear story until the end where Beyonce runs into the arms of her lover, I assume, for an emotional reconciliation. But it is still watchable and very well directed - and the reference to Freakum Dress is genius.

Rocket
Another very sexual exploration of relationships and femininity from Beyonce as she playfully invites us to explore her body in the almost explicit video.
Although this doesn't win prizes for being a catchy, interesting or powerful song it will certainly become a member of the bedroom playlist for many.

Mine feat Drake
Thanks to his tribute to Bey with James Fauntleroy earlier this year, Drake got a call to be featured on this amazing album on one of the best songs.
His influence on the track is noticeable, with comparisons being drawn to Take Care but its transgression between ballad and mid-tempo and the personal lyrics shared by Beyonce make it slightly more interesting and unexpected than a Drake song could ever be.
The video is more artsy than any of the previous visuals as Bey throws around imagery, symbolism and metaphors to explore the theme of the song which seems to be the near break-down of a relationship.

XO
This is the most radio friendly song on the album and has many elements that make it sound familiar like the
gospel style chorus and the uplifting sentiment.
It's a harmless and cheerful song which can't help but a bring a smile to your face as Beyonce celebrates the innocent joys of love.
It is also my favourite video from the collection because it feels so effortless. Yes, I love the creativity and hard-work that goes into all of her videos but watching Beyonce and her friends spend the day at the funfair and just have fun without the extravaganza of costumes or dance numbers makes a refreshing change.

***Flawless feat. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche
The opening sequence is nothing new to us. Beyonce released it as a preview titled Bow Down which had a lot of feminists critiquing the apparent superiority message conveyed in the aggressive lyrics. However, now with the addition of the second half of the song and the beautiful  feature from Nigerian poet Chimamanda, the song takes on a whole new meaning. It not only stands as a female empowerment piece but also, seemingly, a tongue in cheek attack on beauty as Bey repeats sarcastically 'I woke up like this'.
As for the video, Beyonce keeps it simple with a black and white underground setting and a little dance number but it's the strong attitude Bey exerts which makes the

Superpower feat. Frank Ocean

Yay! Frank Ocean is back and he is alongside the Queen Bey on this brilliantly powerful track. It may described as a slow-burner and a bit of a grower because on first listen it didn't make much of an impact on me; however, the amazing vocals from both artists and the subtle production make it quite a beautiful song.
It's unfortunate that Frank doesn't appear in the video but that is all forgiven because we do get to see Kelly, Michelle and Pharrell...and Beyonce with green hair.

Heaven
A very emotional number that will no doubt be played at many funerals and for many moving TV sequences. It is possibly one of Beyonce's biggest ballads as she mourns the loss of a friend and whether this is based on a real experience or not, the pain really shows in the vocals.
The video is just as you'd expect, Beyonce remembering happier moments with her close friend as she attends her funeral. It is a sincere moment of vulnerability which offers a nice break from the sultry and sexual side of Bey being revealed on much of the album.

Blue feat. Blue Ivy
As a closing song, this is perfection especially when Blue adds her own vocals and laughter at the end. It is a lovely tribute from mother to daughter and the simplicity of both the song and video bring the album to a fitting conclusion.
It's also nice to see that Beyonce looks happiest and the most stunning when she is just relaxing on the beach with her daughter.

If Beyonce is hoping that this project will show her fans and music critics that songs are great to listen to but are made even stronger and more effective when you can visually see the message and story of the song, then she has been successful. This will act as a game changer for the music industry and it will be interesting to see how record labels and other artists react now that it has been proven albums can be prevented from leaking early if you do it right.

Twelve Days Till Christmas

The festive season is safely upon us and I have compiled a short list of some of my favourite Christmas songs. From the old classics to the lesser known gems, these are the songs that I will be playing on the 25th!

Fairytale of New York
This has always been my favourite Christmas song thanks to its cheeky lyrics and jig-like melody. It never fails to put me in the festive mood.

All I Want For Christmas
A Christmas classic that everyone lives and will have you singing and dancing no matter how much of a Grinch you are.

Eight Days Of Christmas
Destiny's Child know how to make Christmas music cool and sexy yet still keep it festive and fun.

Happy Christmas (War is Over)
It may not be the light festive cheer we expect from Christmas songs but it sends a powerful message much needed at this time of year.

Last Christmas
Maybe the most covered Christmas song ever and rightly so because it is incredibly catchy and one of the first songs to be played as soon as winter arrives.

Christmas Comes Early Thanks To Queen Bey!

Beyonce has really and truly snatched the crown from every other artist, male and female, in 2013 with only 18 days until the new year.
While were all sleeping Bey decided to release a secret album which includes 14 songs and 17 visuals to accompany it. With no promotion, no lead single and no word from anyone all year that we could expect new music, Beyonce still managed to cause iTunes to crash within minutes of her announcing the album on Instagram.

The songs that I have heard so far all sound amazing and offer a mature and at times experimental Beyonce. There are collaborations with Drake, Frank Ocean, Jay-Z and apparently Miss Blue Ivy.
The videos all look stunning, extremely artistic and relevant to each song and Beyonce looks flawless in every shot. There are new dance numbers, gorgeous outfits, moving story lines and guest appearances from Blue Ivy, Tina Knowles, Chanel Iman and Kelly & Michelle.
Make sure you buy your copy off iTunes and a review will be dropping before the end of the month !

The British quartet are back with their second single Braveheart and the video to boot. Not only is the song fun and catchy but all the girls look stunning in the video and their individual vocals and style is really beginning to show.

It's undeniable that this year has been stellar for Ariana Grande who released her debut single and album this year to rave reviews. There are still a lot of great things to come for this young Nickelodeon star in terms of her music and I am very excited about what we will hear next.

August is definitely the come up king of 2013 after the success of his debut R'n'B jam I Luv This. Even though we still have no album from the 21 year old singer, if his singles are anything to go by we can expect a smooth and sexy collection of R'n'B bangers to accompany his amazing vocals. Oh, and he is very attractive too.

Musique Muse Awards 2013 - Best Video

The Finalists

Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus
Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke
Stay by Rihanna

The Runner-Up

The Winner

It was a really close call between J Cole and Kendrick because both videos stand out amongst all the other hip hop videos that are based around strip clubs, twerking and cars. They are well-directed, touching and mini movie-esque videos that are few and far between in the industry these days but what tipped Kendrick was just purely how much I love this song and any video with a Drake appearance is a winner.

New Music : Neon Jungle

The female British quartet are back with their follow up single...and it's a good one !
The song is a dubstep inspired pop anthem titled Braveheart and although it's another uptempo track it showcases the girls voices a little more than Trouble did.
This will definitely get played out in the clubs before its release on the 19th of January and I am excited about that.

Musique Muse Awards 2013 - Best Group

The Finalists

Krept n Konan
Little Mix
Daft Punk

The Runner-Up

The Winner

TLC have had a fantastic year with it not only being their 20 year anniversary and the release of their greatest hits (with a new song) but it their TV movie was a massive success.
Those who were too young to enjoy the girls' music first time around were introduced to all their biggest hits and got to hear the real story behind the music. Although this has caused some controversy - their ex-manager Pebbles has spoken out against her portrayal in the movie - the critics and fans loved the film and let's hope it leads to even more great things for Chilli and T-Boz.

Tuesday, 3 December 2013

Musique Muse Awards 2013 - Best Female Artist

The Finalists

Nicki Minaj
Taylor Swift
Katy Perry

The Runner-Up

The Winner

What another spectacular year for the unstoppable Rihanna. She won her sixth Grammy back in February, she has released three more singles from her number 1 album Unapologetic, marked her place as a fashion icon by collaborating with River Island for her own line and embarked on a sell out world tour. There is no worthier winner for this title than RiRi.

Monday, 2 December 2013

Musique Muse Awards 2013 - Best Male Artists

The Finalists

Jay-Z
2 Chainz
J Cole

The Runner-Up

The Winner

Proving just why he is one of the biggest selling rappers of our generation, Drake has dominated the music scene this year. His album, Nothing Was The Same, was phenomenal and hit number one in the US selling over 600,000 copies in the first week alone. With a sell out world tour currently under way, it seems as though Drake is not stepping off his pedestal any time soon.

Musique Muse Awards 2013 - Best Song

This year has given us a lot of great music full of controversy, summer smash hits and mega comebacks but who made it to our countdown.

The Finalists

Mirrors - Justin Timberlake
Wrecking Ball - Miley Cyrus
Hold On, We're Going Home - Drake

Runner Up

The Winner

As soon as you hear Pharrell say the words, 'everybody get up', you know what's coming. Blurred Lines was the best selling song of the year in America but it wasn't without its controversy. However, it was still performed at every award show and the video was parodied all around the world and you can't help but shake a tail feather to the song when it drops in the club.

New Video : Will.I.Am and the infamous Miley

Miley is at it again with a new song and video. She features on a brand new Will.I.Am track titled Feelin' Myself and merrily sings (and attempts a rap) about popping molly, twerking and other things she does to look 'cool' and fit in.
On the plus side, her body looks amazing in this video and the features from French Montana and Wiz Khalifa are decent.
The sing and video are a bit...meh but it will get stuck in your head whether you like it or not like most of Will's songs.

Another Day, Another Video

After giving us a little tease last week, Eminem finally dropped the video for Rap God, arguably the best song on his latest album and a worthy single.
The video isn't quite as exciting and epic as I was hoping, knowing that Eminem is capable of making some great visuals but it it still a step in the right direction following his previous release.
He levitates, walks on water and does other God-like things...and we would expect nothing less from the 'King' of rap.

Move Over Britney, There's A New Girl On The Block...

...and she just happens to be Britney Spears' sister, Jamie Lynn.
You may remember Jamie from the hit Nickelodeon show Zoey 101, but after she fell pregnant at 16 and was forced to leave showbiz for a simple life back home with her partner and child, she kept well away from Hollywood.
Now she is back with a vengeance and a country song entitled How Could I Want More with a country album expected to drop next year.

I am not much of a fan of, or an expert on, country music but even I can tell that this is a promising start to a music career for any young hopeful, it helps that she has the Spears name though.
The vocals are beautiful as is the song and the simplicity of the video and the lyrics is such a stark contrast from Britney that you would never think they were related....except the striking resemblance.

Guilty Pleasures - Part 1

We all have them. Songs that we secretly love and have to store in a hidden folder on our iTunes because we think it would be slightly embarrassing if Hilary Duff or Spice Girls came on whilst we were shuffling our iPod at a house party. But the truth is, we probably all can't help but get up and dance when N'Sync starts playing and we relive all our childhood memories when S Club 7 gets brought up and we definitely know all the words to almost every Britney song.
So I proudly present to you some of my guilty pleasures...

Babycakes - 3 of a Kind
One hit wonders are always a good starting point when it comes to guilty pleasures and this old treasure never fails to have me singing along. I still to do this day don't quite understand the meaning behind the song but I that is beside the point. Enjoy!

Rich Girl - Gwen Stefani
Don't get me wrong, being a massive Gwen fan is nothing to be ashamed of - she makes great music, looks flawless all the time and is part of one of the best bands in history. But this particular song was not one of Gwen's brightest moments yet it doesn't stop me from giving it a spin every once in a while.

Switch - Will Smith
When it comes to music, Will Smith is everyone's guilty pleasure. He will never be on a list of iconic rappers or lyrical genius but you can't help but love his songs. His most recent tracks were criticised and performed poorly compared to his older stuff which never made any sense to me. For example, Switch is a perfectly catchy pop/dance track with a great hook and some fun lyrics - it will forever remain on my party playlist.

Fill Me In - Craig David
I debated whether or not to put this on the list because during his hey-day, Craig David was the best thing to come out of the UK garage scene and is still recognised as an important British urban act today. But, to still be playing his songs on the regular basis alongside artists such as Drake and Eminem does seem like a bit of a departure from great music.

Viva Forever - Spice Girls
The epitome of guilty pleasure music is 90's pop and there is plenty of it which I still love and have very fond memories of listening to when I was growing up but one song that still actually brings a tear to my is Viva Forever. The video actually made me cry back when I was 9 and it still stands as one of the best pop ballads of all time in my eyes.

New Video : Demi

Demi Lovato recently tweeted out a little sneak peek of her music video for her new single Neon Lights so I already had an idea as to what to expect.
She gives us gorgeous neon make-up, fist-pumping and hot pool glamour shots to accompany her brilliant dance track. This is the kind of music she should stick with because it makes her look young again and with vocals like that there's not much she can't make sound amazing.

Monday, 18 November 2013

Introducing : Natalia Kills

Natalia may have been on the scene for a while but she is still very much underrated for the sheer amount of talent she has. This British singer began her career as a rapper called Verbalicious when she was just a teen but the now 27 year old artist is an underground pop icon whose creative genius often draws comparisons to Lady Gaga and Rihanna.
Her music videos are usually dark, endearing and extremely entertaining and her music is best described as unadulterated modern day pop with a rock edge. She is stunning too.
Check out her video for Problem below which is filled with explicit scenes that would even make Miley Cyrus blush.

New Music : Timbaland, Jay-z, Drake and James Fauntleroy

Timbaland dropped a little surprise on everyone yesterday by releasing a brand new track called Know Bout Me and it features pretty much everyone that matters in music right now.
I am still unsure on the track as I have only listened twice so it might grow on me but make up your own mind on it by listening below :

What Now ? Well, a new video from Rihanna

Rihanna's videos are so highly anticipated that they merit a countdown and What Now was no different. All week the Navy have been waiting to see what all those sneaky pics and teasers would lead up to today and now we finally know.
The video is a break from the controversy and promiscuity that usually surrounds Riri as she approaches the song with a much more simple yet very artistic visual.
Watch it below :)

Artist of the Week : Jhene Aiko

I adore Jhene and her music and I'm so excited about her debut album because I think it will really boost her career around the world.
This week has been a rather busy one for the singer/songwriter who dropped her EP Sail Out which features Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Big Sean. As expected, all seven tracks are stunning and it really sets the tone for what to expect from the full studio album next year. I really love opening track Vapour and WTH so if you haven't had a listen yet I advice you to do so.
Jhene also released a video for one of the tracks, The Worst, which is ironic because it might be one of the best tracks and best videos that we've seen from Jhene. It tells a dark story of a murder committed by Jhene and whilst the police wait outside to arrest her she has a glass of wine and gets herself all dolled up.
A very dark and compelling video, take a look below :

Drake Is On His Worst Behaviour

Drake really doesn't get enough credit for his music videos which have always been well directed and entertaining. So it is no surprise that his latest video for Worst Behaviour is another long and story filled visual.
The song itself has really grown on me since I first heard it on the album and I am quite happy that it is his new single because it shows a different side to the emotional and vulnerable Drake we often see.
Although, in my mind the video would have been a little more extravagant and the three minute segment in the middle featuring Juicy J seemed irrelevant and felt slightly awkward, it is a pleasant video with a dash of humour at the start.
The video posted below is the shorter version because that is all I can find but trust me these are the only bits you really need to see.
And, is it just me or does Drake look really hot these days ?

New Music, Video and Artist All In One

There is a new British bombshell hoping to follow in the footsteps of all the great female's before her and her name is Tanika.
Her new song and video Bad 4 U will definitely put her on the map as she showcases her powerful vocals which may see her being compared to Jessie J. It's a catchy and fun pop track with a little edge and a little dubstep thrown in for good measure.
Although the video is really dull, Tanika looks great in it and the song alone should be enough to kick-start her music career.
Enjoy below!

Tinie Tempah - Demonstration

I have become completely obsessed with Tinie's new album since it's release on Monday and I will tell you why (if you are yet to here it for yourself).
It strays away from Tinie's debut release in that it is not filled with club bangers and catchy hooks although there are a few thrown in for good measure. Tinie shows a lot of growth as an artist by exploring some more personal themes like cheating on his girlfriend on It's Ok and goes even more autobiographical on Looking Down The Barrel - one of my favourites because of the superb production.
The slower and more emotional songs on the album such as Tears Run Dry are really beautifully executed and are moments that Tinie's last album was missing.
There are also some great hip-hop and dance songs like Shape, Don't Sell Out and the single Trampoline which will no doubt have you up dancing in the club.
In fact, there are only two songs on the album which I find myself skipping and that's Witch Doctor and Children Of The Sun as I just find them to be filler tracks.
Throw in the amazing vocals from Ella Eyre, Emelie Sande, Labrynth and Laure Mvula and some big features from 2Chainz, Dizzee Rascal and Big Sean and you have an album that caters to everyone.
The versatility is impressive and showcases every aspect of Tinie as an artist which makes me excited about what will hear next.

4 stars.

Artist of the Week: August Alsina

After dropping his debut single almost 8 months ago, R'n'B crooner August Alsina finally hit No.1 in the US this week and rightly so. His song I Luv This is a really catchy track and his vocals, although very similar to Trey Songz, are brilliant. It helps that he is also a very attractive and young guy, so the future is looking bright for him especially now that he has signed to Def Jam Records.
He has dropped an EP this week too which showcases his talents as a singer, songwriter and all round artist and now that Chris is out of the music scene for a while this is the perfect time for August to step in.

New Video : A Modern Romeo & Juliet

Ariana Grande has dropped a brand new video for her fabulous song Right There featuring Big Sean and it is every inch the perfect love story.
Based on the tragic love affair of Romeo and Juliet minus the fatal ending, Ariana plays the female lead alongside Patrick Shwarzenegger as Romeo and Big Sean as The Priest.
Check out the pretty video below

New Video - Jhene Aiko

Another flawless song from Jhene Aiko titled Bed Peace and featuring Childish Gambino. The video to accompany it pays homage to John Lennon and Yoko Ono and fits really nicely with the song - Jhene looks stunning too.

Halloween Horror : Scariest Music Videos Ever !

With Halloween just around the corner, it seems more than appropriate for to take a look at some of the scariest music videos of all time!
This includes videos that make you jump, scream, squirm and hide behind your sofa (and hopefully not because of the vocals) just like a horror film so make sure you prepare for a fright...

Thriller - Michael Jackson
Of course the late and great Michael Jackson had to grace this list with his ultimate Halloween song Thriller. The video matches the thrilling lyrics of the song with a mini horror film production which includes a dark night, a boy and girl out alone and some zombies doing an infamous dance number.
If you don't hear this in every club on Halloween night and bust out your MJ moves then you haven't really celebrated Halloween properly.

Monster - Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross
A video so freaky that it's almost impossible to find on Youtube so I'll fill you in on the basic concept for those who haven't seen it. The video involves all the artists in a mansion surrounded by female corpses and other female 'monsters', as well as Kanye casually clutching a decapitated head and some weird shots of his face being grabbed by hands.
To add to the shocking video, there are two Nicki Minaj's - if that's not horrifying then I don't know what is.

Yonkers - Tyler The Creator
This isn't necessarily a scary music video but it is very eerie and creepy and will leave you slightly emotional scarred. I don't know which part is more disturbing, the cockroach eating, the vomit or Tyler's angry lyrics.

3AM- Eminem
The perfect horror video and song that could easily be mistaken for a horror movie trailer. Eminem plays a mental patient/serial killer who is escaping and killing everyone in his path and the video also includes shots of him bathing in a bath full of blood.

Wonderland - Natalia Kills
Although it's a charming and fun pop song the video is far more disturbing, particularly the closing 60 seconds. But then again, whenever a music video starts with a warning message you know that some serious ish is about to down.

New Video : Azealia Banks

Azealia is back and although I am no longer a fan of her after her constant Twitter feuds and ignorant comments, I still keep track of her music because she is talented.
Unfortunately I am not feeling this latest track ATM Jam or the video she released today to go with it. The song itself is bland and doesn't seem to go anywhere which fits perfectly with the video which lacks all the energy and entertainment of what we have come to expect from Azealia.
Don't get wrong, Azealia looks great (she should stick with that weave) and the colours and costumes are visually appealing but it's all just a bit . . . safe.

2013 MOBO Awards

This year the MOBO Awards were held in Glasgow, once again, and hosted by the gorgeous Sarah-Jane Crawford and Trevor Nelson.
As much as I look forward to this award show, every year it seems to get less entertaining and is slowly declining into a bit of a joke.
The night included a lacklustre audience, awkward technical difficulties and lacked any real star power from outside of the UK to lift the energy of the show.
With the awards celebrating their 18th birthday, you would expect some big name performances or special appearances. . . but there was no bang, just a hesitant fizzle throughout the night.
Looking back at the 1999 show, for example, Jay-Z, Destiny's Child and Method Man are some of the few who were not only in attendance but also performed that night. This year we were given Rudimental, AlunaGeorge and Fuse ODG, who were all brilliant - don't get me wrong - but they are not on the scale of previous years performers.
I think the awards is slowly losing it's touch which is a shame because the concept behind the night - celebrating music of black origin - is a rarity in the UK and it has so much potential in being a well-respected and highly anticipated night.
Maybe have a comedian host the show alongside a young music presenter like Reggie Yates and throw in a couple more categories to celebrate more genres. Add bigger performances, I mean where was Robin Thicke with the biggest song of the year (he was in the country because he performed on the X Factor the following night) but most importantly, you need a bigger and better crowd.
Take the show back to London, throw in more artists, add some scandal and there you have an enjoyable night.

New Music : Eminem is a Rap God

Finally some brilliant music from Eminem, maybe even one of his best in years, that brings us back to the Stan-era when he was at the top of his game.
The speed yet clear annunciation and coherence with which Em raps is astounding coupled with the genius lyricism we expect from Eminem and a catchy hook we have ourselves a great track.
Very much looking forward to the upcoming album if this is what it holds!

10 Favouritest Songs Ever (and I know favouritest is not a word)

In celebration of reaching 1,000 page views for my blog (within the space of three months might I add) I have compiled a list of my 10 all time favourite songs ever !
I must admit that this list is as accurate as possible but I am sure some amazing songs have slipped my mind and being the music fanatic I am there were so many songs that I wanted to include but couldn't for fear of this turning into a top 100.
It is also important to add that this is in no particular order!
Enjoy :)

Venus vs Mars by Jay-Z - My favourite Jay-Z song! Love the beat and the hook and the lyrics...

Like A Star by Corine Bailey Rae - Love it so much I have it tattooed on my arm

Last Night by P Diddy - To this day I cannot understand why I am obsessed with this song but I am

Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton - A classic! I am forever singing it in the shower

Shot Caller by French Montana - Had to throw in a song from the 21st Century and this is the only one I                                                         will never tire of

Hey Ya by Outkast - How can anyone not love this song. It never fails to make me get up and dance

Waterfalls by TLC - Brings back so many childhood memories and the message behind the song is so                                          powerful

In The Arms of An Angel by Sarah McLachlan - Whenever anyone sings this on X Factor I well up.                                                                                         The lyrics and vocals are stunning

Pretty Wings by Maxwell - Another stunning song and Maxwell is such an underrated artist so he                                                           deserves a place on this list

Heartbreaker by Mariah Carey - A song dear to my heart because of the memories attached to it
